Roots Reclaimed

Finding Belonging Again

The journey that shaped Ahn Ki Nam Charitable Foundation began in Korea, where childhood brought hunger, loss, and separation from family. Adoption carried me to America, where I grew up disconnected from my culture, identity, and roots. Rediscovering Korean food in Hawaii awakened memories I thought I had lost, while art became a way to express what words could not.

Years later, my work in pro bono branding and an unexpected bond with a Korean “unni” showed me that reconnection and belonging are possible. Ahn Ki Nam Charitable Foundation grew from that lived experience—a space where Korean adoptees can reclaim their stories, creativity, culture, and connections, while finding community, acceptance, and a renewed sense of home.

Mikki's Journey Home

My earliest years in Korea were shaped by trauma, hunger, and profound loss. After separation from my brother and homeland, I grew up in the United States, carrying a quiet sense of disconnection. Art became my constant companion, while decades of branding and supporting small businesses gave me purpose in helping others.

Meeting my Korean “unni,” who welcomed me as family, opened a new path to healing and reminded me that connection and heritage are never truly lost. This journey continues to shape my work as a founder, Korean adoptee, artist, and marketing professional, inspiring a global movement where every story matters and every adoptee can find a way home.
